Following the recent harrowing report of expert midwife, Donna Ockenden, into the multiple cases of inadequate care and work practices in the maternity unit at Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals, Ms Ockenden has agreed to chair an enquiry into the poorly performing Nottingham University Hospitals Trust where worrying numbers of baby deaths and injuries have also been reported. This appointment has been driven by many families’ local campaigns for improvement in service quality.
An interim report is expected as early as later this month to identify any urgent changes needed to avoid any further avoidable harm. Up to 590 families have already been contacted regarding treatment and care at the hospitals under this Trust.
